The EN 343 European standard specifies requirements and test methods for the performance of materials and readymade garments for protection against the effects of adverse weather conditions, such as precipitation. For example rain, snowflakes, but also fog and ground humidity. The standard, in addition to the criteria for defining ideal waterproofing, also prescribes comfort criteria for the garment itself which is meant to be intended both for work and leisure time. The required and monitored criteria are breathability, ideal holding of body temperature and good resistance to stress.
The technical tests carried out are capable of defining the strength of the garment both on the fabric and on the seams, such as: water penetration resistance; aqueous vapour resistance; tensile strength; tearing resistance; dimensional variation resistance; in addition to the presence of indelible labelling.
