The EN 358 standard specifies the requirements, tests, marking and information supplied by the manufacturer regarding belts and lanyards intended for the purpose of work positioning or restraint of operators when working at a height. The standard does not apply to restraint lanyards with fixed length not integrated into a belt, which are dealt with in EN 354.
These devices are components used to connect a belt to an anchoring point, or to a structure, wrapping around it, becoming a support means. This component is not intended as a fall arrester. Consisting of adequately arranged and fitted elements, they wrap a restraint lanyard around the body and limit the horizontal movement of the user preventing them from reaching positions at risk of falling from a height during work.
They should be used on flat roofs, or with a slope < 15°, where it is envisaged to operate in restraint conditions.
