The EN 407 standard specifies the requirements, test methods, information to be supplied, and marking of protective gloves and other devices protecting hands against heat and/or fire. It is also applicable to arm protective equipment. It is used for all gloves and protective devices that protect the hands or parts thereof against heat and/or flames in one or more of the following forms: fire, contact heat, convective heat, radiant heat, small splashes, and large quantities of molten metal. The standard is only applicable in conjunction with EN ISO 21420.
The degree of protection against risks from heat and/or fire is identified by a pictogram
followed by 6 performance levels regarding a specific risk.
flammability resistance level 0 to 4
resistance to contact heat level 0 to 4
resistance to convective heat level 0 to 4
resistance to radiant heat level 0 to 4
resistance to small splashes of molten metal level 0 to 4
resistance to large quantities of molten metal level 0 to 4
