The EN ISO 11611 standard specifies minimum basic safety requirements and test methods for protective clothing to be worn during welding and allied processes with comparable risks. The standard includes protective devices such as hoods, aprons, sleeves, and gaiters that are designed to protect the wearer’s body including head and feet.
The devices referred to in this standard protect the operator against sparks and short contact with fire, as well as minimise the risk of electric shocks in case of short accidental contact with power lines.
The work clothing must fully cover the body to guarantee an ideal protection level. For this reason, it is recommended to complete the outfit with jacket, trousers, head protection, gloves and the front part of the garments. Clothing certified by 11611 features a minimum number of pockets and/or compartments, so as to considerably reduce the risk of fire in case of sparks.
This standard features two classes:
Class 1) Protection against less hazardous welding operations causing lower levels of splatter and moderate radiant heat.
Class 2) Protection against more hazardous welding operations, causing higher levels of splatter and more intense radiant heat.
